Recap of our adventure through Russia, this time with 1000% more snow.
This is the type of place where people have adapted to the weather in a lot of ways. Like their baby strollers are mini sleds instead of having wheels.
One of the nights we went out to dinner with some crew from the refinery and the chief on site. We had grand ol time.
The day after Katie's birthday we got word of a job in Russia that needed someone who could get there fast. Less than two days later we were on a plane bound for Nizhnekamsk (How to pronounce it), a city in the Republic of Tartartstan, Russia.
Now, Nizhnekamsk this time of year is more like the Russia you picture in your mind. Very cold and covered in snow. Like, -25 degrees and literal feet of snow everywhere, which was really cool. Our hotel was the Paradise (they spell it Paradiz).
This was a warm day, only -10

I mean they are still cute as hell, but it stands out to me. Even people pushing around shopping carts didn't have wheels but instead more like sleds

The two on the left were from the refinery, in the back is Turarbek the chief
Some schmuck joined the picture
One desperately wanted to teach me some Russian dance moves, so I learned them
While Katie was on shift I looked around to see if I could find anything cool, and ended up stumbling upon an old Olympic training facility.
However, i'd say the strangest thing I found was in our own hotel. It's not uncommon for these international hotels to have a restaurant attached, heck it's where we eat most of the time overseas. But this one was themed Tarantino.
As in Quentin Taratino the director. I knew his movies were big but I never expected to see his face in a restaurant in the middle of Russia.
They even had some legit pieces of artwork of the movies.
So, neat little surprise there. There wasn't much else happening in Nizhnekamsk. I was told they are known for a local hockey team and people ski. Their definition of skiing seemed to be putting on skis and going over a flat trail tho. We ended up flying from Nizhnekamsk back to Vologograd where Katie would chief the last test of the job we were at last year.
We were only in Volgograd for about one week before the job was finished and we were flying back to the states.
The last day we went out with the entire crew from UOP and had dinner. The food we ended up ordering was really good.
And that was our winter in Russia. We aren't quite sure whats coming up next but be sure that it'll end up here.
The next post however, will be my experience going to a movie in Russia.
Best I could tell, it was now open to the public for people to use for whatever

Movie posters lined the walls
Even pillows with his name

Nizhnekamsk airport actually had a really nice coffee shop for such a small airport
Our planes wing's getting sprayed down before take off

Our room this time was a tad bigger and even had cooking potential
