While in Sicily Italy, with some extra time we took some time for a once in a lifetime experience, climbing an active volcano.
This is just a rock on Etna, the dang thing is too big to catch in one photo
Now, let's be clear about the word active. The mountain wasn't erupting or anything when we were on it. But about a week or so before then it had gone off, so it wasn't exactly dormant. But when we were going it was completely safe.
We were able to drive a decent ways up the mountain, but still left plenty to negotiate on foot. The trails were well worn, clean, and easy to follow. Hilariously, we had 4G phone signal the entire time we were on the mountain. Can't get a bar in Montana, but on top of a Volcano in Italy? Why not.
And of course we had to stop along the way to grab some great pictures.
If there was a downside, it was the day we went was a little bit cloudy and even had a chance of rain. So we couldn't see the farthest out but the view was still great. Plus we had incredible weather on the day before, so we take what comes to us.
And further on we trekked up the mountain, seeing some awesome rock formations and even a few lava flows.
All culminating in an awesome destination.
The clouds parted briefly for a few of these pics, and then came in back with some rain, so we headed back down, but we'll never forget the time we climbed Mount Etna.
Thanks for reading, as always more is coming to stay tuned.
Added Bonus, the safety signs on the mountain entertained us greatly.
